Abstract
These artworks are closely related to cultural heritage because they capture and preserve the Bora community’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage in the Peruvian Amazon. Through the images and graphic compositions, these paintings convey the worldview, traditions, and deep connection of the Bora people with nature and the spiritual world. Each represented element, whether the moon, stars, flora, fauna, or community spaces, carries specific cultural and symbolic meanings essential to the Bora’s identity. Furthermore, these works also show how the Bora community interacts with and shares its cultural heritage with people from outside their territory, highlighting the importance of cultural diversity and intergenerational knowledge transmission. Collectively, these paintings not only celebrate Bora culture but also contribute to its preservation and promotion, making them a valuable testament to the cultural heritage of the Peruvian Amazon.
This series of llachama paintings vividly captures the life and worldview of the Bora community in the Peruvian Amazon. These graphic compositions reflect Bora’s deep spiritual connection with nature, emphasizing the sacred balance between the elements that coexist in earthly and spiritual realms. The paintings depict scenes that evoke the harmony between the community and their natural surroundings. The significance of the moon, the stars, the night, animals, and plants in the daily life of the Bora is evident, as well as in their spiritual practices and rituals. Furthermore, these artworks also portray the communal spaces of the Bora, where people gather, share knowledge, and celebrate their traditions. These spaces are vital for social cohesion and the transmission of culture. Additionally, the paintings illustrate how the Bora community welcomes and accommodates individuals not from their territory, highlighting their hospitality and desire to share their cultural heritage with the outside world.
