Abstract
This artwork is closely related to the territory and cultural heritage due to its profound symbolism and representation of fundamental elements in the Shipibo worldview, a culture deeply rooted in the Amazonian region. The jaguar, the butterfly, and the rainbow symbolize meaning in Shipibo culture and represent key aspects of their relationship with the land and cultural identity.
This acrylic painting on canvas focuses on the jaguar, a powerful and spiritual feline that occupies a central place in the composition. Its body is adorned with markings that, at first glance, evoke the shapes of roots and branches from the jungle, establishing a captivating visual dialogue with its natural surroundings. The jaguar represents a symbol of great significance in the Shipibo worldview, with qualities attributed to it such as strength, agility, and protection. In addition to the jaguar, the artwork incorporates the figure of a butterfly, an element symbolizing transformation and metamorphosis in Shipibo culture. This winged creature represents the journey of the soul and the transition between different stages of life. Furthermore, the painting includes the image of a rainbow, a symbol of hope and balance in Shipibo cosmology. The rainbow acts as a bridge between spiritual and earthly dimensions, conveying messages of great importance.
