Abstract

This work is related to cultural heritage due to its exploration of symbology and Indigenous tradition in the Peruvian Amazon. The figure of the jaguar, considered a powerful and spiritual symbol in these cultures, becomes the central point of the artwork. Through the creation of small crafts called “perucistos,” an essential element of the region’s cultural heritage is being preserved and disseminated. These crafts keep the tradition of representing the jaguar alive and have become popular among the inhabitants, contributing to the transmission of this part of cultural heritage to current and future generations. Therefore, the artwork becomes a contemporary expression highlighting the importance of preserving and valuing the cultural richness of the Peruvian Amazon.

This video explores the symbolism of the jaguar in Indigenous cultures of the Amazon and the relationship between an artist and a craftsman who creates small jaguar figurines known as perucistos," a diminutive version related to Peru. The jaguar is presented as a powerful and spiritual symbol associated with strength, agility, and protection in these cultures. The narrative focuses on how the artist establishes a connection and collaboration with the craftsman who makes these figurines and how this craft has become popular among the region’s inhabitants. The video delves into the cultural and spiritual importance of the jaguar, as well as its impact on the local community through these artistic creations.
