Abstract
The Gaîté Parisienne series was developed by Lorenzo Jaramillo during his residency in Paris in the 1980s. The series captures the atmosphere of a gay bar, an orgiastic party in a club, and a Turkish bath. The artist borrows the title from a ballet composed by Léonide Massine (1938), which follows flirtatious encounters, delightful dances, and the cheerful mood of a Parisian café during the Belle Époque. With a similar spirit, Jaramillo captures the same sensuality and playfulness found in his favorite cruising spots.
