Abstract
In response to a series of systematic murders of homeless people and minors living under the bridges on 26th Street by paramilitary groups in 1994, the artist carried out a series of performative actions in public spaces along 13th Avenue, between 26th and 19th Streets. Titled Cleaning Days, these visibility actions in the face of social cleansing involved the careful and methodical cleaning of the city’s most marginalized public spaces, along with the bodies of residents and workers in the area. The days also included awareness campaigns on condom use aimed at the community of sex workers.
