Abstract
Produced as a result of the lack of awareness about HIV and AIDS, this blown glass sculpture illustrates the virus—giving it shape and presence, allowing it to be recognized. Alongside it is a series of five condoms or prophylactics, the primary tool for the prevention of STIs (sexually transmitted infections). The use of the blown glass technique in both cases alludes to their apparent invisibility as well as the social weight they carry. Both pieces have circulated as part of the installation Difficult Loves, Times of Chat, aimed at raising awareness about the disease and its prevention.
