Abstract
Seropositivo was an installation first presented at MAMBO in 1994, exploring the ethical and moral crisis of society in the face of HIV/AIDS. The work consists of a photograph of Arias’s naked body covered with thousands of laboratory slides containing traces of HIV-positive blood, arranged like tiles. Illuminated by blue neon lights, the installation evokes the sensation of a swimming pool in which the artist appears to be suspended.
The book on display here contains comments left by visitors to the installation in 1994. With testimonies ranging from brief and trivial to lengthy and elaborate, the book serves as a record of the fears and confessions of dozens of lives touched by the virus.
