Abstract
Happy Hour is an installation that invites reflection on the relationship between people living with HIV and the medications used to manage the disease. The first version of the piece was created for the launch of the so-called chemical “cocktail” to treat HIV at the XIX International AIDS Conference in Geneva, Switzerland (2012). The artist’s semen and blood represent a paradox: while they are traditionally symbols of fertility and life, in this context they symbolize illness and death. The piece thus reflects on the isolation caused by a terminal illness burdened by social prejudice.
